Abstract
A atual emergência e reemergência de algumas doenças infecciosas ultrapassa fronteiras nacionais, afetando cada vez mais países desenvolvidos e em desenvolvimento. Este estudo alienta que a disseminação global de novas doenças infecciosas está afetando a previsibilidade implícita nos enfoques dominantes da transição em saúde. Este trabalho analisa, do ponto-de-vista epistemológico e político, enfoques alternativos para enfrentar estas novas tendências epidemiológicas globais.
