Abstract
The IBA „Cârja-Maţa-Rădeanu ponds” (code 010) is situated along the point of the confluence of Elan River with the Prut River, on the border of Vaslui and Galaţi counties. The avifauna list including 123 birds species recorded in 1995 – 2005 period; between these, we recorded 12 species belonged to Ciconiiformes Order. From these, one species is present only during the migration time – the Black Stork (Ciconia nigra), all the others being breeding species in this area. We followed their dynamic during migration and the breeding population’s trend. We notice the presence of the Spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia) like breeding species beginning with the 2003’s summer – it is the second breeding site identified out of the Danube Delta in Romania but also in the Prut River Basin.
