Abstract
"Murió repentinamente" es el epitome invariable que los historiadores emplean al enjuiciar el inesperado final del visitador don Nuño Núñez de Villavicencio, ocurrido el año de gracia de 1607, en la ciudad de Santa Fe.
Ninguno, sin embargo, se ha detenido a reflexionar sobre lo que este acontecimiento supuso en el cuadro histórico de la capital del Nuevo Reino, quizás por no haber tenido la fortuna de encontrar la curiosa documentación que sobre esta materia existe en el Archivo General de Indias.
