Abstract
El presente artículo se plantea en una doble dimensión, de un lado es la presentación del dossier sobre estudios de la historia de la comunicación en el siglo XIX que la revista Chasqui ha decidido publicar en esta edición y, de otro, esboza una entrada a lo que significa hoy el trabajo sobre la historia de la comunicación en América Latina. Sin ser exhaustivo o total, este artículo constituye un llamado a ver las posibilidades, observar los vacíos y afrontar las limitaciones de lo que sucede en este ámbito de estudios, para lo cual propone unos elementos a atender hoy.
