Abstract

Abstract

One of the modern requirements for using equipments in all the areas of economy, science and education, is its safety operation. In this work, it was carried out the reliability and risk analysis of an experimental setup for the wastewater treatment with ultraviolet radiation. The fault tree technique was used and two variants of calculation were analyzed. The first variant considered unreliable sources of electricity supply and the second considered the existence of reliable sources. As a result, 20 minimal cut sets were identified 12 of first-order and 8 of third-order. Besides, the necessity of an alternative supply electrical power source was inferred and it is important to establish redundant components group for industrial scale
facilities. The analysis demostrated the set-up is safety for its use in the laboratory.

Key words: reliability, risk, experimental set-up, wastewater treatment, ultraviolet radiation, fault tree.
