Abstract
Los bosques semideciduos (con follaje caedizo) del extremo oriental de Cuba se estudiaron en Sabana y Maisí, provincia Guantánamo, en la Gran Meseta Cársica de Baracoa y en las Terrazas Costeras del Extremo Oriental, respectivamente, sobre carso. La lluvia fluctúa entre 600 y 1 000 mm por año, con un periodo seco acentuado. Utilizando el método de la Escuela Zurich-Montpellier se describen dos asociaciones nuevas para la ciencia. Calophyllo antillani-Ocoteetum coriaceae en suelos ferralíticos rojos, fértiles, que conforma un bosque semideciduo mesófilo y Thouinio patentinervis-Burseretum simarubae (bosque semideciduo micrófilo) que se desarrolla sobre el "lapiez" o "diente de perro", con una estera radical definida en la que se produce el reciclaje de nutrientes.
