Abstract
A dissecção aórtica é uma doença de baixa incidência, ocorrendo apenas cerca de dois mil casos por ano, mas potencialmente catastrófica. Quando secundária à hipertensão arterial, constitui-se uma emergência hipertensiva, caracterizada por súbita separação da camada média do vaso. Há infiltração de uma coluna de sangue em um espaço virtual entre a íntima e a adventícia, determinando uma falsa luz e a formação de hematoma. Pode ser classificada de acordo com Stanford em A, quando acomete aorta ascendente, ou B, quando acomete aorta descendente pós-subclávia esquerda. O tratamento pode ser cirúrgico ou endovascular.
