Abstract
Antes no se analizaba el proceso de la comunicación social ni su relación con otros elementos de la realidad, lo importante eran los efectos que producían los mensajes. Era época del periodismo de opinión. Para romper con la cultura del silencio impuesta por los propietarios de los grandes medios surgió el periodismo alternativo, que debe ser espejo de la cotidianidad, capaz de realizar una lectura crítica de la realidad y el entorno social. Quinientos años de cotidianidad impuesta no permitieron que los latinoamericanos pudiéramos reconocer, rescatar y aceptar nuestra variada realidad.
