Abstract

IMPORTANCE AND SOCIAL IMPACT OF TUBERCULOSIS IN CHILDREN

ABSTRACT

No matter how significant children tuberculosis (TB) might be, it is a forgotten condition, so far underestimated, of secondary importance in public health programs and from its clinical aspect. Due to immunologic immaturity and physiopathogeny, there are non specific different and very variable manifestations, showing diagnostic difficulties for sputum being paucibacillar, germs not readiliy found in bacilloscopies; sputum samples are hard to collect, since children younger than 5 have trouble in coughing up, so bacilloscopies are seldom positive.

Keywords: Tuberculosis, Koch bacillus, children pneumopathies
