Abstract
Saša Stanišić's essayistic narrative Doppelpunktnomade can be seen as prototypical for intercultural and multilingual literature.  Like many other works of literature by Chamisso authors it plays with cultural and linguistic hybridity which can elicit reactions of irritation and otherness. Even though reader response is a profoundly individual process it can be productive to assess the reactions and associations students have while exploring texts like Doppelpunktnomade. These reactions range from highly subjective and often biographical associations to engaging with the aforementioned cultural and linguistic hybridity in both normative and reflective ways. In order to effectively facilitate learning processes it seems vitally important to use these spontaneous reactions as the starting point for constructing meaning in literary texts in a classroom setting.
