Abstract
OBJETIVO: Descrever e discutir a vivência das mães na realidade de ter um filho com câncer. MÉTODOS: Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa realizada em uma Casa de Apoio à Criança com Câncer, tendo como sujeitos 11 mães, na faixa etária de 22 a 55 anos, que acompanhavam seus filhos em tratamento oncológico. A coleta dos dados ocorreu por meio de entrevista semi-estruturada, com análise temática. RESULTADOS: Evidenciaram-se as principais dificuldades vivenciadas pelas mães diante do adoecer e do processo de hospitalização do filho. CONCLUSÃO: Percebeu-se que o câncer, devido às mudanças e privações que acarretam na vida afetiva, social e familiar da mãe, desencadeia um intenso sofrimento.DESCRITORES: Sentimentos; câncer; mães.
