Abstract
Situada al SW de Popayán, a unos 25 Km., existe una cadena de picos volcánicos, que se ha denominado desde el siglo XVI “ la Sierra de los Coconucos” y que debe su nombre a sus antiguos moradores, los indios Coconucos (Pedro Cieza de León, Crónica del Perú, p. 130).
