Abstract
This paper examines from a sociological viewpoint the public library use of people living in Ankara. Data was gathered through a questionnaire which was completed by 1800 persons (6 years old and above) residing in 600 households. Households were selected from various districts of Ankara where low-income, middle-class and well-off families lived. In this research public library use of subjects were investigated on the basis of the following variables: age, sex, occupation, marital status, geographic origin, levels of education and income, and the level of parents' education. As a result, it has been understood that the use of public libraries of individuals depends on the variations indicated. Bu araştırmada Ankara'daki 6 yaş ve üzeri nüfusun halk kütüphanesi kullanımları sosyolojik açıdan irdelenmektedir. Bunun için Ankara'da alt, orta ve üst sosyo-ekonomik semtlerde 600 hanede oturan 1800 kişiye anket uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada kişilerin halk kütüphaneleri kullanımlarının yaş, cinsiyet, medeni durum, meslek, eğitim düzeyi, coğrafik geçmiş, gelir düzeyi, anne-baba eğitim düzeyi gibi değişkenlerle ilişkisi incelenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, kişilerin halk kütüphanesi kullanımlarının bu değişkenlere bağlı olarak farklılık gösterdiği anlaşılmıştır.
