Abstract
Tendo em vista as potencialidades da agricultura familiar para o desenvolvimento socioeconômico do espaço rural, e, por conseguinte da nação, mediante o fornecimento de gêneros alimentícios ao mercado interno, a geração de emprego e renda, entre outros, o presente artigo procura tecer algumas reflexões sobre a agricultura familiar no contexto rural brasileiro, considerando o exemplo do município de São Gotardo (MG). Neste sentido, são abordadas as principais contribuições teóricas acerca da agricultura familiar e suas conformações no espaço rural brasileiro, considerando os processos históricos e as correntes epistemológicas materializados nas últimas décadas, quando foram mais intensas as transformações espaço rural brasileiro, no sentido de valorizar a agricultura familiar.
