Abstract
En el año de 1886, apareció en Londres un "Diccionario ortográfico de apellidos y de nombres propios de personas con un apéndice de nombres geográficos de Colombia ". Sus autores, don Emiliano Isaza y don César Conto compilaron aquella vez, la no despreciable cantidad de 11.576 onomásticos o apellidos de origen hispano o españolizado; 581 nombres de procedencia extranjera y 715 nombres geográficos. Al presentar su trabajo, lo precedieron con un estudio sobre onomástica basado en las obras de José Godoy y Alcántara y Ángel de los Ríos.
