Abstract
ABSTRACT: We conducted a DNA llngerprinttog analysts of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains in Lisbon, Portugal a country in wich tuberculosis is endemic in order to evaluate the importance of microepidemics in the maintenance of the disease within the population. The genetic polymorphim of 155 strains or Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolated from 147 patients during 1992 and 1993 (including 27 strains collected from Cabinda, Angola, during the some period) were subjected to DNA restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis, using the insertion sequence IS6110 as a probe. 108 different IS6110 RFLP types were identifed, and 30 strains were grouped in clusters, by computer-assisted analysts of DNA fingerprints. One of this clusters, presenting 9 bands in a particular place, seems to be a portuguese single genotype. Palavras chave: Mycobacterium tuberculosis, RFLP, Key words: Mycobacterium tuberculosis, RFLP
