trachoma in adıyaman and besni in the republican era (1925-1975)

Abstract Traumatic Disease is a contagious disease that causes blindness. It has been the cause of blindness seen in Turkey after cataracts. Anhydrous living conditions and environmental conditions are more common in rural areas as it facilitates the spread of the disease. Many cities in the eastern and southeastern parts of the country have been adversely affected both in the last century of the Ottoman Empire and in the first years of the Republic and in the settlements such as Adıyaman, Besni, Gaziantep, Malatya, Kilis and Urfa. As far as Adıyaman, "hometown of the blind" used expressions such as "bazaar of blinds" in Kilis. Since 1925 against Trahoma throughout the country, a systematic, programmed and self-sacrificing struggle has been initiated. Initially, traumatic hospitals opened in Adıyaman and Malatya were opened in other provinces where trahoma affected them. In addition to the opened hospitals, dispensaries, mobile organizations and village treatment houses were also established. Patients with traumatized patients who have been scanned every year where the disease is common have been treated. Even separate schools have been opened for children with traumatic work carried out in similar schools. In Adıyaman and Besni, where the disease is most affected, the number of patients with traumas, the challenges against traumas, and how people are affected by it have been tried to be determined in this study. The local and national press reports of the turnover were sourced and the information on these was assessed. In addition, reports on the subject, memorabilia and other scientific research have benefited.
