Abstract
O capim-Aruana (Panicum maximum cv. Aruana) tem mostrado bom desempenho nas pastagens, particularmente naquelas ocupadas com ovinos, mas são escassas as informações relacionadas com a nutrição mineral deste capim. Objetivando avaliar o estado nutricional dessa forrageira quanto ao N, foram estudadas seis doses de N de 14; 112; 210; 294; 378 e 462 mg L-1 em solução nutritiva. O experimento foi desenvolvido em casa de vegetação, utilizando vasos que continham sílica moída como substrato, no período de outubro a dezembro de 2000. As plantas foram colhidas 35 dias após o transplante para os vasos e 28 dias após o primeiro corte, procedendo-se, nesta ocasião, à separação das raízes da sílica. Sintomas visuais de deficiência de N manifestaram-se a partir do décimo dia do crescimento inicial das plantas. A concentração e a distribuição de N nas partes das plantas, em ambos os cortes, a atividade da redutase do nitrato, bem como as leituras SPAD, foram influenciadas pelas doses de N. O valor SPAD variou, no primeiro crescimento, de 32,0 a 52,6 e de 25,1 a 42,1, no segundo crescimento, respectivamente, nas doses de 14 e 462 mg L-1 de N. A concentração crítica interna de N nas lâminas de folhas recém-expandidas foi de 28,4 e 34,1 g kg-1, correspondendo aos valores críticos SPAD, respectivamente, de 49,0 e 42,8, para o primeiro e segundo corte, respectivamente.
Aruana grass (Panicum maximum cv. Aruana) is well adapted to pastures, especially those grazed by sheeps, but knowledge on mineral nutrition of this grass is scant. In order to evaluate the nutritional status of this forage in relation to nitrogen, Aruana grass was grown in a nutrient solution with N six rates (14; 112; 210; 294; 378 and 462 mg L-1). The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse in the Spring, from October to December 2000. Each experimental unit consisted of one pot with ground quartz as substrate. Plants were harvested twice. The first harvest occurred 35 days after transplanting to the pots, while the second one was 28 days after the first harvest. Right after the second harvest the roots were separated from the substrate and collected. Visual symptoms of N deficiency appeared on the 10th day after seedling transplanting. Results showed significant effects of N rates on N concentration and N distribution in the plant parts, on nitrate reductase activity as well as the SPAD values. At the first harvest, SPAD values ranged from 32.0 to 52.6 and from 25.1 to 42.1 at the second harvest, respectively, from the lowest to the highest N rate. The critical levels of N concentration and SPAD values determined in the recently expanded leaf blades were, respectively, 28.4 g kg-1 and 49.0 at the first harvest, and 34.1 g kg-1 and 42.8 at the second harvest.
