Abstract
Hablar de insectos es comúnmente aburrido o fastidioso. Con frecuencia oímos alusiones a los molestos mosquitos que nos desvelan en las noches, o acerca de las benéficas y laboriosas abejas, avispas y hormigas. No falta tampoco quien se pronuncie en contra de la irreverente mosca doméstica o de las estridentes serenatas que ofrecen grillos y cigarras. Para completar, se oyen peores lamentos acerca de las omnipresentes cucarachas, pulgas y piojos. Sin embargo, todos estos casos se refieren a los lugares donde vivimos: casi siempre limitamos la vida o su conocimiento a los sitios de desenvolvimiento humano. En el caso de los páramos y territorios más altos, este conocimiento es más escaso aún; tal parece que perdieran importancia por carecer de contactos inmediatos con ellos.
