Abstract
Aunque sobre este trágico episodio en la vida del general Gregor Mac-Gregor existen varias relaciones, especialmente la de Rafter, contemporáneo de los hechos, queremos ofrecer aquí algunos documentos que las complementan en varios aspectos de esa acción de armas, como las comunicaciones del general Alejandro Hore, Gobernador y Comandante Militar del istmo en esa época, o sea el punto de vista español y la lista de más de un centenar de los legionarios extranjeros, en su mayor parte ingleses e irlandeses, que cayeron allí, prisioneros de guerra y el desgraciado fin que les acarreó su inútil aventura; inútil, decimos, porque solo sirvió para descrédito de las armas independientes, afianzamiento del poder español en el istmo de Panamá y sacrificio de más de trescientos legionarios.
