Abstract
In this study, which examines the endurance of environmentally-friendly new generation wood preservation materials and coating processing materials against conditions in the external environment, Celcure AC 500 (Alkaline Copper Quaternary) and MCQ (Micronized Copper Quaternary) wood preservation chemicals and polyurethane based and UV absorbing acrylic resin based coating processing materials were used. After the treatment of aforesaid chemicals prepared in various combinations on different types of wood samples, the samples were exposed to an accelerated weathering test for a duration of 500 hours in a QUV cabin for 18 minutes and a two-hour ultraviolet (UV) cycle. In the study, the color change and surface roughness parameters of wood samples to which coating materials were applied upon being processed with wood preservation materials were compared. The lowest color change value (ΔE*) was found on the surface of the wood sample to which UV absorbing acrylic resin based coating processing materials were applied after being treated with MCQ. It was observed that the application of coating on wood samples protected the surface quality and roughness value at a considerable level while the best quality protection was seen on samples to which polyurethane based coating material was applied.
