Abstract
Para los investigadores del CPDOC de la Fundación Getúlio Vargas la conducta de los medios respecto al candidato y al presidente Collor de Mello se explica mejor en términos de las ofertas políticas y programáticas durante la campaña, y del abandono por parte del gobierno de las acciones prometidas. Para ellos la genialidad del marketing electoral y el repentino activismo periodístico y moralizante fueron expresiones de un proceso inconcluso más profundo y racional. Con tres apariciones en televisión la candidatura de Collor de Melo logró despegar y ubicarse en los primeros lugares. La revista Veja y la encuestadora Gallup lograron posicionarlo. Como todo en su gobierno, la idea de modernización fue manipulada como un ingrediente más del marketing.
