Abstract
The work seeks to rescue the social role of universities and the expectations placed on education for democratic consolidation model, mainly to the challenge of building citizens interested in the needs of the social environment, which think of themselves as citizens share in the collective decision-making and not just as voters seeking to satisfy personal interests and in the worst case scenario with a merely formal citizenship, alien to any involvement. This was taken on the concept of university social responsibility (USR) to revitalize the debate about the importance of social role that public universities have for democracies in construction, primarily as a responsible citizen education. The aim of the research was to analyze some aspects of the profile citizen of students at the Autonomous University of Mexico State, rescued from a questionnaire administered to students. This certainly highlights the responsibility we have as academics and researchers in the setting and interpretation of reality in which they are inserted, so we can defend and promote the role of universities in citizenship education and its importance in society aspiring to be fully democratic.
