Abstract
Este artigo versa sobre a pesquisa histórica no arquivo do Itamaraty. Analisando a estrutura do Arquivo, a evolução das regras de acesso aos documentos diplomáticos brasileiros e as pesquisas nele efetuadas entre 1987-1998, o autor aponta que a Constituição de 1988 operou significativas mudanças no que concerne ao acesso à documentação contida no Arquivo, facilitando e estimulando novas pesquisas no campo da história das relações internacionais do Brasil.
This article deals about historical research at Itamaraty's archive. By analyzing the structure of the archive, the evolution of the rules regarding the access to Brazilian diplomatic documents and the researches occurred in that archive during the period of 1987 to1998, the author argues that the Brazilian 1988 Constitution not only changed the rules of access to the documentation kept in the archive but also facilitated and stimulated researches about history of Brazilian international relations.
