Abstract
Este artigo insere-se na área de formação de professores e tem como objetivo discutir o trabalho docente na universidade e sua conseqüente necessidade de formação pedagógica. Para tanto, desenvolve reflexões em torno de três eixos fundamentais: a universidade como instituição formadora; docência na universidade e formação pedagógica; e a universidade e a formação de seus docentes. No primeiro eixo destaca o papel da universidade concebida como instituição de ensino a serviço da educação e da construção da sociedade humana. No segundo eixo aborda a necessidade de formação pedagógica para a docência universitária sob o enfoque da qualidade de ensino e da competência docente. No terceiro eixo evidencia que ocontexto institucional no qual ocorre o trabalho docente é de extrema importância e aponta para a responsabilidade da universidade em relação à formação de seus docentes. Considera que professores e instituições precisam investir na dimensão pedagógica da docência e estar conscientes de suas responsabilidades formativas. Finalmente aponta que é urgente desenvolver políticas de educação superior voltadas para a formação do docente universitárioenvolvendo professores, alunos e instituições na busca de uma educação de qualidade e comprometida com a construção de uma sociedade mais justa e humana.
Abstract The objective of this article is to discuss the work of university teachers and their needfor pedagogical development within the context of Teacher Education. It brings out reflections on three fundamental axes: the university as an educational institution; university teaching and pedagogical education; and university and teacher development. The first axis stresses the role of the university as a teaching institution that works towards the education and construction of human society. The second deals with the university teachers’ need of apedagogical education focused on teaching quality and competence. The third axis emphasizes that the institutional context where teaching takes place is of extreme importance, stressing the responsibility of the university towards its teachers. Therefore, teachers and institutions need to invest in the pedagogical dimension of teaching and be conscious of their educational responsibilities. Finally, this work points out to the need for the development of educational policies involving all teachers, students and institutions in search for an education of quality and committed to the construction of a more just and human society.
