Abstract
O emprego do curvímetro surgiu da necessidade de se avaliar a distância de um percurso rodoviário em um mapa durante um exercício em sala de aula. Como o aparelho é relativamente caro para a compra, para tanto, comprou-se uma carretilha para marcar tecido, em loja de aviamentos. Mediu-se uma volta completa da carretilha para se calcular a sua circunferência. A carretilha transformada em curvímetro passou a ser capaz de medir percursos curvilíneos como uma régua comum. A partir daí os alunos efetuaram experimentações e comparações com um curvímetro padrão para avaliarem o grau de precisão do curvímetro de carretilha.
