Abstract
Les polémiques qui ont entouré, dans le débat national sur les universités, l’utilisation du classement dit «de Shanghai» incitent à regarder de plus près comment fonctionne celui-ci. Reporter ses résultats sur une carte mondiale fait apparaître la géographie de ce que ses auteurs considèrent être «les grandes universités mondiales», avec ses points de concentration (les trois grandes mégalopoles) et ses points faibles (le reste du monde). En réaction aux insuffisances et aux biais de ce classement, d’autres palmarès ont été élaborés. Trois d’entre eux font également l’objet d’une analyse et d’une cartographie.
