Abstract
Los españoles que se disponían a partir de la Península hacia América estaban dominados por las imágenes del oro y de las tierras maravillosas. de los indios en estado natural. y en general, de las cosas sorprendentes de que les hablaban los conquistadores y soldados que regresaban del Nuevo Continente. A esta circunstancia debe agregarse el estímulo que recibían de la literatura popular de ficción, cuyos autores aprovechaban las noticias más sensacionales llegadas del Nuevo Mundo para ganar más lectores.
