Abstract
En febrero de 2000, el Banco de la República anunció la decisión de suspender el servicio de tesorería en algunas sucursales y reforzar las áreas culturales, convirtiendo estas últimas en bibliotecas. A partir del 1 de septiembre de 2000 se inicia la adecuación de espacios en las sucursales de Santa Marta, Sincelejo, Valledupar, Florencia y Popayán para albergar en cada una de ellas una biblioteca pública con servicios de lectura para niños y adultos; y en las bibliotecas de Girardot, Honda, Ipiales y Tunja, sucursales que contaban con servicios bibliotecarios a cargo del Banco, se amplían los espacios destinados al servicio de consulta
