Abstract
Ya todos conocemos esos rimbombantes títulos académicos -me refiero a los de los libros y los artículos, no a los de las personas- que nos seducen sólo para engañarnos luego. Por lo menos aquí, en nuestro particular campo de la historia, hemos visto últimamente un diluvio de obras cuyos títulos (astutos, afectados, alusivos y aliterados) no gua rdan proporción alguna con el contenido. En su guía para novatos que buscan ser publicados en Princeton, Robert Darnton suministra una lista útil (un ejemplo tomado al azar, que combina los dos puntos y la aliteración de rigor y cuyo autor no está presente, espero, en este recinto, dice: "Peligro, pestilencia y perfidia: la construcción del Lucknow colonial, r8s6-77").
