Abstract
Nuestro trabajo se propuso determinar la prevalencia de baja visión y ceguera en el policlínico "Elpidio Berovides" en el municipio Lisa; así como conocer diferentes aspectos epidemiológicos relacionados con estas enfermedades. Se analizaron como variables: edad, sexo, antecedentes patológicos familiares (APF) y personales (APP), tanto oculares como generales, y por último las afectaciones psicosociales de estos pacientes. Estos datos se analizaron a través de tablas. Como resultado de nuestra investigación encontramos una tasa de prevalencia de baja visión de 230 x 100 000 hab y una tasa de ceguera de 40 x100 000 hab, afectándose principalmente los pacientes mayores de 60 años. Las principales causas de estas enfermedades fueron el glaucoma con un 16 %, la miopía degenerativa (14,8 %) y otras enfermedades de la retina. Todos los pacientes afectados presentaron limitaciones desde el punto de vista psicosocial.
Our paper was aimed at determining the prevalence of low vision and blindness at "elpidio Berovides" polyclinics, Lisa municipality, Havana City and also finding out different epidemiological aspects related to these diseases. The variables taken were: age, sex, pathological family history and personal history, both general and ocular, and lastly psychosocial effects on these patients. Tables and graphs helped to analyze these data. As a result of our research work, we found a prevalence rate of low vision equals to 230 x 100, 000 pop whereas blind rate is 40 x 100 000 pop, affecting mainly patients over 60 years. The fundamental causes of these diseases were glaucoma, 16%; degenerative myopia, 14.8% and other retinal diseases. All these patients presented with restrictions from the psychosocial viewpoints.
