Abstract
Argumento neste artigo pela aplicação do assim chamado 3R (substitua, reduza, refine) na pesquisa ética envolvendo animais não humanos dando prioridade real para a substituição. Apresento um argumento para o uso de animais não humanos, especialmente se eles forem beneficiários de tais experimentos científicos. Esta visão não é nem especista nem radicalmente abolicionista. A longo prazo, entretanto, argumentamos aqui, se políticas adequadas forem estabelecidas e tecnologias criadas será possível substituir (replace) completamente o uso de animais em experimentos científicos.
