Abstract
The relationship between management development theory and practice is discussed in historical perspective. Package deals bought purely on the basis of apparent sound philosophical premises are questioned. The need for scientific development of training programmes and training management courses is discussed.

Die verband tussen teorieontwikkeling en praktiese gebeure op die gebied van bestuursontwikkeling word in historiese perspektief bespreek. Blindelings aankoop van bestuursontwikkelingspakkette op grond van oënskynlik oortuigende filosofiese uitgangspunte word bevraagteken en 'n saak uitgemaak vir die wetenskaplike samestelling van opleidings-kursusse en die wetenskaplike opleiding in opleidingsbestuur.
