Abstract
<p>Como una medida de higiene, pensando que la lepra podría contagiarse de persona a persona, por contacto directo, la Dirección Nacional de Higiene solicitó al Gobierno, la fabricación de unas monedas para que circularan únicamente en los leprocomios, y que fueron acuñadas con una aleación de Níquel 25% y Cobre 75%. </p><p>Para que se fabricaran dichas monedas, el Gobierno expidió los decretos 1452, 1562 y 2209 del año 1901. Estas monedas popularmente se conocían con el nombre de –Coscojas– que significaba poca cosa y se produjeron durante los años 1901, 1907, 1921 y 1928.</p>
