Abstract
Como en todas las épocas, en la Colonia hubo en el Nuevo Reino de Granada numerosos individuos que ejercieron la medicina o alguna de sus especialidades sin haber seguido estudios en universidad alguna y en consecuencia sin haber obtenido el título que pudiera acreditarlos para ello. Esto estaba favorecido en esa época por la circunstancia de que no se habían organizado todavía los estudios médicos en el territorio del Nuevo Reino de Granada, lo que hacía más difícil el obligar al cumplimiento de las disposiciones que se habían venido dictando casi desde la terminación de la Conquista para el control del ejercicio profesional.
