Abstract
The article presents an analysis of the versatile activity of the eminent scientist and educator Vbladimir Axionov. Educated at first at the „E. Coca” specialized music school and at the Institute of Arts from Chisinau, later he continued his studies at the „P. Tchaikovsky” Conservatoire from Moscow where in 1979 he defended his doctoral thesis entitled „The West-European symphony from the interwar period in the light of the stylistic tendencies of the time”. In 1982 he completed and defended the doctor habilitat thesis „The symphony in the stylistic genres of symphony music from the Republic of Moldova”. V. Axionov is the author of about 100 scientific works devoted to some key problems of musicology: the theory and history of genre and style, the diversity and evolution of native symphony music, folklorism in music etc. V. Axionov is the founder of a scientific school in the domain of musicology as he educated many generations of scientists. He also carried on vast organizational-scientific and teaching activities.
