Abstract
Estrogen levels change closely related with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) of the occurrence
and development, estrogen play a regulatory role for IBS through various channels, such as
emotional reactions, gastrointestinal motility, gastrointestinal hormones and brain - intestinal
shaft. Estrogen receptors (ERs) of the gastrointestinal tract mainly in mast cells, intestinal
allergy, infection can activate mast cells, a direct result of the clinical symptoms of IBS
patients. Suggesting that mast cells in the gastrointestinal tract is likely to be involved in the
pathogenesis of IBS estrogen important mediating link. In this paper, research of ERs estrogen
and IBS were reviewed.
