Abstract
An extraordinary and widespread abnormality of satellite cells in autonomic ganglia of both adrenals has been found in a 41-year-old woman who died of longstanding pan-hypopituitarism. The pituitary gland and hypothalamus were destroyed by craniopharyngioma. Two types of cytoplasmic changes were found in the satellite cells; one was oncocytic and presumably a reversible type of swelling and the other appeared to be irreversible hyaline degeneration. There is a possibility that the droplets and swelling may be related to secretory mechanisms at the junction of the satellite and ganglion cells, even though the usual stains for neurosecretory substances were negative.
