Scoring Methodology
Every number Journament publishes, with the exact criteria, point values and data sources behind it. Two independent scores exist: the free Journament Score, computed from platform statistics, and the paid AI Quality Score. They are never combined, and the AI score never affects directory ranking.
1. The Journament Score — seven statistical criteria
| Criterion | Weight | Data source | How points are earned (max 100) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engagement | 0.14 | Reader analytics on Journament, last 30 days | Page views up to 25 (1,000 = full) · time on page up to 20 (5 min avg = full) · low bounce rate up to 15 · article & PDF downloads up to 15 (100 = full) · shares & bookmarks up to 10 (50 = full) · unique-visitor ratio up to 15 |
| Accessibility | 0.10 | Journal record, OpenAlex open-access status | Has a website 20 · website reachable +15 · author instructions 10 · open access 30 (10 if closed) · multi-language publishing up to 15 · authors from >10 countries 10 |
| Timeliness | 0.10 | Publication year of indexed articles | Articles published in the last two years: 50 (>50 articles), 40 (>20), 30 (>10), 20 (any) · most recent article: 50 (this year), 40 (last year), 20 (within 3 years) |
| Diversity | 0.12 | Author countries per article, extracted from OpenAlex affiliation data | Geographic spread: 10 distinct author countries = full marks (sub-weight 0.25) · international collaboration: share of articles whose authors span more than one country (sub-weight 0.20) · gender balance, institutional spread and interdisciplinarity join the mean where curated data exists. Renormalised over measured sub-components. |
| Innovation | 0.10 | Keywords across indexed articles; aims & scope as fallback | Unique article keywords up to 70 (1.5 per keyword) · where no article carries keywords, distinct meaningful terms in the journal's aims & scope count at two-thirds strength · interdisciplinary index up to 30 where measured |
| Community Impact | 0.08 | Reader analytics, last 90 days | Social shares up to 25 · external referrals up to 25 · collaboration and subscription inquiries up to 20 · rescaled to 0–100 |
| Content Distribution | 0.11 | Reader clicks per article (Gini analysis) | Evenness of readership across articles: (1 − Gini coefficient) × 60 + consistency (1 − coefficient of variation) × 40. High scores mean attention spreads across many articles rather than one. |
2. The AI Quality Score — five criteria, paid, separate
An optional Google Gemini analysis following NISO RP-25-2016, DORA 2025 and COPE principles. It produces its own 0–100 score from five criteria — Content Quality, Ethics & Transparency, Editorial Standards, Publication Regularity, Geographic Reach — shown beside the Journament Score, never blended into it, with no effect on ranking.
3. Article analysis — the published standard
| Criterion | Weight |
|---|---|
| Academic Rigor | 20% |
| Enhanced Innovativeness | 15% |
| Methodology Quality | 12% |
| Topic Relevance | 10% |
| Topic Importance | 10% |
| Research Integrity (COPE) | 10% |
| Practical Impact | 10% |
| Interdisciplinary Value | 8% |
| Clarity & Readability | 5% |
Author Diversity, keyword generation and abstract extraction are reported as analyses alongside the weighted score. Criteria a given analysis did not evaluate are excluded from the weighted mean rather than scored as zero.
This page describes the calculation as implemented in the live code. When the methodology changes, this page changes with it — automated tests pin the two together.
