Abstract
Study about modernization of the pedagogical programs of ornamental art at the Fine Art School of Barcelona (Llotja) during the romantic period. José Arrau y Barba, professor of this school presented in 1850 a scholar teaching system whereby he unified the studies of artistical aspects, the «ornamental design» class together with those of a more technical content, the «lineal design», an important improvement which enabled the industrial artists to get integrated in the machinist process of production of artistical objects for use and decoration.
