Abstract
This article aims to describe the process of bullying occurring in schools as a possible cause of school dropout and increasing demand for youth and adult education (YAE) observed in the current Brazilian educational context, in order to seek an answer to the question mooted. This is a theoretical and empirical descriptive essay that uses secondary sources and the life experience of the researchers on bullying to make the analysis. It was shown that public schools are far from being a democratic space always being a hostile environment that discourages the retention of students in regular education. Moreover, many educators are anxious to consolidate the school as a place of wellness, that fighting violence and form new citizens, visualizing the YAE as a way to reverse the process of evasion and bullying. Other researches suggest that the influence of bullying on school dropout is discrete. From these findings, the paper explores ossible causes of truancy and the demand by YAE and recommends further research to clarify these issues and the consequences of the bullying process.
