Abstract
The paper analyzes the characteristics, functions and markers of conversational implicatures in SMS discourse. The first part of the article introduces: (1) the basic mechanisms of successful transmission of conversational implicatures in interpersonal verbal communication and (2) the main features of language production typical for communication via text messages. The second section presents the results of corpus analysis of SMS correspondence and determines the main types of linguistic and paralinguistic markers of conversational implicatures typical for this kind of discourse. The aim of this paper is to point out the specifics of SMS discourse when it comes to resources and mechanisms of encoding, signaling and successful decoding of conversational implicatures.
