Abstract
Family is a social institution constituting with mother, father and children living under the same roof. In this study, in the Ayntab city in 16th Century is discussed in terms of number of children and spouse of the family as well as sex of children. In accordance with information obtained from the point of estate records in seriye records (şer„iye sicili), number of children per family was approximately 2,8 in the Ayntab city in 16th Century as well as plural marriage (polygyny) was not prevalent
