The terms 'Iberia' and 'Iberians' in Greek and Latin sources: a study about their origin and scope | Los términos "Iberia" e "Íberos" en las fuentes grecolatinas: estudio acerca de su origen y ámbito de aplicación

This paper deals with two basic problems: establish the possible relationship between Pontic Iberia and the origin of the name of Spanish Iberia, studying the information which surely some Greek mythical stories comprise, and establish the contents exclusively geographical, and far of any ethnical consideration, which the word «Iberia» (Hispania) had in ancient times, turning to the graeco-latin authors' witness. | Este artículo se propone dos objetivos fundamentales: establecer la relación que pudo existir entre la Iberia póntica y el origen del nombre de la Iberia hispánica, mediante el estudio de la posible información contenida en algunas narraciones míticas griegas, y establecer el contenido exclusivamente geográfico, y alejado de cualquier planteamiento de tipo étnico, que en la Antigüedad tuvo el término «Iberia» (Hispania), acudiendo a los testimonios de los autores grecolatinos.
