Abstract
This study determines the extent to which female nursing students from Sahiwal, Pakistan are using AI and how they perceive it. The relationship between frequency of AI usage and their academic performance was also explored. With recent emergence of ChatGPT and other AI tools, these have begun to get absorbed into learning processes of students, with the risk of over-reliance. Cross-sectional survey design was used. Participants were volunteer BS Nursing students of College of Nursing, Sahiwal. A bilingual paper questionnaire was completed by participants. Data was analyzed using SPSS for Spearman’s correlation and non-parametric tests. All students had used AI, and the majority used ChatGPT. About half used AI daily, mostly for understanding difficult concepts. Most believed heavy use could weaken thinking. Higher frequency of AI use was associated with lower academic performance. Colleges should make rules for usage of AI. Teachers should teach proper usage of AI for learning.
