Abstract
We conducted a systematic review of studies that have investigated the association between prescribed insulin for type 2 diabetes and the risk of skin cancer. Four studies met the inclusion criteria, one trial and three cohort studies. Of these, all bar one were high-quality. The majority of studies report no statistically significant association and the direction was inconsistent. Future research should evaluate the effect of different insulin analogues, dosages, and exposure periods, and consider confounding by indication.
