Abstract
Abstract This discussion note challenges Yoshiki Yoshimura’s recent attempt to defend Scanlonian contractualism against the distant world objection. While Yoshimura’s amended contractualism initially appears capable of avoiding the objection, I argue that his proposal ultimately falls short in certain relevant cases. Moreover, I suggest that attempts to revise the view reveal a deeper problem for Yoshimura’s overall strategy that has important implications for principle-based views more generally.
