p53 immunohistochemistry shows a high frequency of aberrant expression in atypical fibroxanthoma and pleomorphic dermal sarcoma, reflecting underlying UV-associated TP53 alterations. While not specific, p53 serves as a useful adjunct in challenging cases, particularly in distinguishing residual tumour from reactive changes.
