The Gino Luzzatto Prize, Awarded by the European Historical Economics Society for the Best Dissertation in Economic History Submitted between July 2023 and June 2025: Summaries of the Finalists’ Dissertations

Every second year since 1996, the European Historical Economics Society (EHES) awards a prize for the best doctoral dissertation in economic history, defended over the last 2 years. The prize is named in honor of the Italian (Venetian) economic historian Gino Luzzatto (1878–1964). At the EHES Conference in Hohenheim, held from September 4 to 6, 2025, the prize for 2023/2025 was awarded to Qiyi Zhao (PhD, Stanford University, 2025). Here, we publish short summaries of the dissertations from the three finalists of the Gino Luzzatto Prize competition, each of whom presented their work in Hohenheim.
