Abstract
Abstract My topic here is semantic neutrality. In what interesting ways can language—or the meanings of particular expressions—be, or fail to be, neutral? Talk of neutrality might be developed in different directions. I critically discuss some different conceptions. Some of the discussion will concern the idea that it is an important desideratum on a semantic theory that it respect a particular kind of neutrality constraint.
Zusammenfassung Mein Thema ist hier die semantische Neutralität. Auf welche interessanten Weisen kann Sprache – oder können die Bedeutungen bestimmter Ausdrücke – neutral sein oder dies verfehlen? Die Rede von Neutralität ließe sich in verschiedene Richtungen entwickeln. Ich setze mich kritisch mit einigen unterschiedlichen Konzeptionen auseinander. Ein Teil der Diskussion wird sich mit der Auffassung befassen, dass es ein wichtiges Desiderat an eine semantische Theorie darstellt, eine bestimmte Art von Neutralitätsbeschränkung zu respektieren.
